For the past three years, Amgen Ireland colleagues have been actively fundraising for Play in Pink, the official charity partner of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, helping to support breast cancer research at the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI).
Recently, colleagues visited NBCRI at the Lambe Institute for Translational Research in Galway to see first-hand the research their fundraising is helping to support and to meet some of the clinicians, scientists and researchers behind the work.
The visit offered an insight into the research underway at NBCRI and how funds raised through Play in Pink support areas including research infrastructure, specialised equipment and PhD researchers. It also brought to life the connection between community fundraising and the scientific research working to deepen understanding of breast cancer and contribute to future progress in patient care.
Play in Pink has become an important part of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, bringing together golf clubs, players, fans, volunteers and partners to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Amgen Ireland colleagues have embraced the partnership through fundraising and employee-led activities over the past three years.
The visit to Galway was an opportunity to see the impact of that collective effort first-hand – and a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when sport, community fundraising and science come together around a shared commitment to improving outcomes for patients.
