The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is a hands-on science education programme from the Amgen Foundation that brings biotechnology to life in the classroom. It gives students the opportunity to take part in practical experiments, ask questions, and experience science in a real and engaging way.
The programme provides secondary-school teachers with access to professional development, research-grade equipment, supplies and curriculum-linked materials for their students.
Amgen Golf Ambassador Pádraig Harrington visited Cabinteely Community School in Dublin to see ABE in action. Students had the opportunity to step into the role of scientists - experimenting, problem-solving, working together and building confidence through discovery.
The visit highlighted the parallels between sport and science: curiosity, persistence, adaptability and continuous improvement.
Programmes like ABE are one way the Amgen Foundation helps nurture scientific literacy and the next generation of scientists, innovators and problem-solvers - people who may one day contribute to developing life-changing medicines for patients around the world.
